The Travel Halo can be downloaded to Android phones and can be set as to what speed limit the driver wants the app to activate. In the contrary, the phone will return to its original function when the driver reduces his speed below the set limit or comes to a halt. The app may then allow the messages or other types of phone activity to resume during the halt.

The creator, David Grant, is hoping that this app could help prevent deaths caused by accidents in many countries. The Travel Halo app seeks to help combat the alarming number of traffic accidents due to distracted driving, specifically texting and calling while driving. On average, there are about 5,000 people killed and more than a half get injured every year because of distracted driving.

When the driver or user installed the Travel Halo app to his phone and set the speed limit, the app will automatically disallow incoming and outgoing calls, text messages, web or internet use while he is driving. This helps in reducing the temptation in picking up the phone while driving. However, outgoing calls may be allowed for emergency purposes only.

Statistics showed that teenagers are more likely to be guilty of distracted driving. Though, many people recognize the dangers of texting and driving, 60% of the drivers are still using cellphones while behind the wheel. So, to stop the unprecedented accident, the installation of this app may be of great help. In order to use the Travel Halo app, you must first download the Halo application to your Smartphone.
