The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is Google’s latest in their line of Android operating systems. Google previously announced that this Android version will be rolled out initially to a couple of selected devices and the lucky persons who will experience the first Jelly Bean updates are the owners of Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Sprint was the first to announce the availability of updates for their Galaxy Nexus devices. It was only after two weeks when Verizon announced that their Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy Nexus are available as well, considering that they were the first to offer this state-of-the-art smartphone in the U.S.
Nevertheless, owners of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone subscribed with these two carriers were glad that they can now update their device’s operating system to the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by simply going to their phone’s Settings then proceed to About Phone, then System Updates.
So, what’s in it for the Galaxy Nexus owners with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and why is this pretty much controversial? Continue reading to find out:

1. Google Now-Google Now provides information to the user based on the user’s current activities, routines, current location, previous websites visited, etc., thus, giving information that is useful, relevant and applicable to the owner. For example, if the owner is travelling, Google Now will provide the exchange rate in the location that the traveller is going. Google Now can also provide traffic updates in the usual time that the user is going to work and the locations that he will go through.

2. Project Butter – Ginger Bread, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean….all those Android version names making you crave for sweets? Well, here’s something about the Android 4.1 that will trigger your sweet tooth further. For being a dairy item that is smooth and silky, all the efforts that is intended to make the Android 4.1 smoother, faster and more responsive is termed as Project Butter. People who were able to own a device operating on the older versions of Android may have experienced some stuttering in its operations. And for those who have witnessed how an iPhone operates even with the older iOS versions, the difference is very much noticeable. But with Project Butter, people will experience a smoother performance with their phones such as when switching apps and home screen.

3. Better and functional notifications – While the earlier versions of Android has a notifications function where users can have a quick view of the latest activities in their smart phone such as a new update for the apps, new message, missed call, etc., the Android 4.1 provides more information and allows more function such as expanding an item to see more details or viewing an email and compose a reply.

4. Easier pairing of devices with Android Beam – The near field communications or NFC technology has been around for quite some time but with the Android Beam, not only two Android devices can be paired by the mere tapping gestures. Android devices can also be paired with Bluetooth devices such as speakers or headsets that have the Simple Secure Pairing standards.

5. Voice Search – While the voice search is no longer different with the iOS, the Android 4.1’s Voice Search has the upper hand for being integrated with the leading search engine of all the time which is none other than, Google. The user can simple speak out “Google” or tap the microphone icon that can be found on the home screen’s Google search or from the Chrome browser. Users can also ask the Voice Search for queries that cannot be answerable with a voice message like images or nearby restaurants. In this case, Voice Search will provide Google search results for these types of queries.
Final Thoughts
These are only among the amazing features that come with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Other attributes that Galaxy Nexus owners will experience are the improved Browser and WebView, Face Unlock, better call, messaging and talk feature, more customizations for the keyboard, enhanced WiFi for high speed internet connection, and much more. Soon enough, other devices will follow suit in getting the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean including the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X which is expected to get the new latest Android OS this October.
