Samsung’s Galaxy Note2 and Galaxy S3 are the two behemoths of the smartphone world. The two of them are at war and both are immensely feature rich. They have the latest and greatest hardware, amazing displays and are blazing fast. As a buyer, it is easy to be torn between the two. Let’s take a look at the differences between them.
Display
Samsung Galaxy SIII: The display is a 4.8 inch behemoth. The display looks great. It is really good if you love watching movies and videos on the go and don’t want to carry your tablet or laptop all the time. It is an HD display, so high definition movies will look great. At the same time, it can be awkward and difficult to use with one hand because of the size. Typing and swiping can be tiresome if you are holding it with one hand.
Galaxy Note2: This one is a 5.5 inch HD display. While some users love to use this as a tablet, others don’t want to whole a large phone. It all depends on how you see it. Some see it as a tablet and a phone, while others see it as a very small tablet. Anyways, you will enjoy your movies more on the Note2 than on S3, simply because of the larger size. One handed use is a nightmare though.
Performance
Samsung Galaxy SIII: The smartphone comes with a quad core processor, which in simple terms means that it has more power than previous generations. It runs fast. There is no lag when you switch between apps and none of the stutter that plagues android phones in general is visible. If you are upgrading from the SII, the difference in speed and smoothness is very noticeable.
Galaxy Note2: The new Galaxy Note2 has about the same internal hardware as the SIII and therefore performance is very similar. Performance is also snappy as with the SIII. You will especially love how the browser works amazingly fast and is a delight to use. You can also view more of the page content and scroll less. If you are a media junkie, the Galaxy Note2 is a great companion short of a tablet.
The SIII and Note2 are tied when it comes to performance.
Operating System
Samsung Galaxy SIII: It comes with the latest version of Android which is 4.1. It is noticeably faster than the previous versions and in general a delight. It has none of the problems of previous versions of Android and is very stable. If you have avoided the Samsung Galaxy line because of problems with Android, now is the time to check again. It is on par and even better than iOS.
Galaxy Note2: The Note2 was released last year and therefore runs an earlier version 2.4 of Android. It is less enticing the version 4.0 and it noticeably slower. If you want a faster experience, you want to upgrade the system to Android ICS. The older version is still serviceable and all the apps work perfectly.
When it comes to operating systems, Samsung Galaxy SIII wins
 Pen touch
One of the things that the Galaxy Note2 shines at is its pen utility. You can write on screen using the stylus provided and it recognizes your handwriting. It is one feather that the SIII does not have and will never have. The built in note taking app is also quite slick
There you have it. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Note2 match each other in most departments.
